On the weekend marking the 10th Anniversary of September 11th, a band of brave swimmer scouts and their crews set out to cross the length of Lake Mempremagog between Newport, Vermont and Magog, Quebec. Their mission is threefold:

• To promote a more open border with our Canadian friends and neighbors even as we support efforts to deal with terrorist activities

• To raise funds for the continuing operations of IROC (the Indoor Recreation Center Orleans County), which provides health & wellness services for people at risk such as those suffering from diabetes, heart disease and cancer

• And, of course, this merry band set out in search of Memphré, the famed creature of Lake Memphremagog

Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale

We won't say which swimmer scout is coming the most prepared, but given the recent revelation that Memphe seems to prefer Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale, a case of the fine brew has been procured and may be used as bait. We're just sayin'... it's a possibility. And if she doesn't drink it, we have it on good authority that some of the swimmer scouts might be convinced to try some.

There are some perks to summer giving way to fall...

Water temperature update- got a report this afternoon that the water in Memphremagog ranges from 63 to 68 which is right toasty for most of our swimmer scouts. We are banking on a northward current to cancel out any opposing headwind. Fingers crossed!
